Some changes were made to the default document layout and font styles in Word 2007. The changes add a bit of spacing between paragraphs and the appearance of text has also been altered. Since we don't need the additional spacing or other bells and whistles in our everyday documents, we can change the Style Set back to Word 2003.
This is accomplished via the home ribbon. To change the Style Sets to Word 2003:
- Open the Home Ribbon of Word 2007 (ALT-H)
- Activate the "Change Styles" command (G)
- Within the Change Styles drop down list, activate the option labeled "Style Sets" This opens a drop-down menu from which you can select a document style.
- Within the drop-down menu, activate "Word 2003."
The focused document is now configured for Word 2003 styles. In order to make the Word 2003 Style Set the default of Microsoft Word, you need to take one more step.
- Open the Home Ribbon (ALT-H)
- Activate the "Change Styles" Command (G)
- Within the drop-down list, activate "Set As Default"
The Word 2003 Style Set is now the default for Microsoft Word; however, you aren't limited to this particular style. You can select another Style Set whenever you wish.
Within the drop down menu of styles are a number of document style formats including Manuscript, Elegant, Word 2007 and more. You can select one of these at any time and save a document with that Style Set.
When you open a new document, it returns to Word 2003 because you've set that Style Set as the default .
